A Wedding Celebration
On August 1, 2002, Lynn, Kelley and I were fortunate enough to attend the wedding celebration for Rania Samaha and her groom, Wail Selfo. Rania and Kelley were grade school and Jr High School 'best friends' in Abqiaq, Saudi Arabia. Rania was like a daughter to us. Even though we are retired and living in Florida, Nawal and Mohamed Samaha are still close friends. Rania and Wail had been engaged according to Muslim tradition four months earlier. The formal, nighttime Wedding Celebration took place at the Marriott Hotel just outside of Cairo. It was a wonderful outdoor affair full of ceremonial significance and a lot of partying. The bride was beautiful and the groom handsome as the pictures on this site will testify. Sarah and Aly Samaha brought along friends from Abqiaq to take part in the celebration and to enjoy the sights and sounds of Cairo. Sarah along with her friends Mona, Kaitlan, and Mai were flower girls. Aly and his friend, Elias, also took part in the celebration. The kids had great fun before, during, and after the celebration. We want to thank Mohammed and Nawal for their gracious hospitality during our short stay. We really enjoyed visiting with Aliaa and her 4-year old daughter Aya. Our very best wishes go out to the newlyweds! To navigate the site, just click on "Pictures" on the left and it will take you to a page with thumbnails. Click on any thumbnail and it will take you to a larger version of the picture. You can also go to the next picture by clicking on the " > " or the previous picture by clicking on the " < " below each of the large pictures. The camera used was a Nikon D100 digital camera. Lynn took the pictures earlier in the afternoon while the bride and flower girls were getting ready, I took the pictures during the wedding (except for those that I am in) and the few that were taken the next day.
